14 weeks- The end of the first trimester, the beginning of the second!!

Your pregnancy: 14 weeks
How your baby's growing:This week's big developments: Your baby can now squint, frown, grimace, pee, and possibly suck his thumb! Thanks to brain impulses, his facial muscles are getting a workout as his tiny features form one expression after another. His kidneys are producing urine, which he releases into the amniotic fluid around him — a process he'll keep up until birth. He can grasp, too, and if you're having an ultrasound now, you may even catch him sucking his thumb. In other news: Your baby's stretching out. From head to bottom, he measures 3 1/2 inches — about the size of a lemon— and he weighs 1 1/2 ounces. His body's growing faster than his head, which now sits upon a more distinct neck. By the end of this week, his arms will have grown to a length that's in proportion to the rest of his body. (His legs still have some lengthening to do.) He's starting to develop an ultra-fine, downy covering of hair, called lanugo, all over his body. Your baby's liver starts making bile this week — a sign that it's doing its job right — and his spleen starts helping in the production of red blood cells. Though you can't feel his tiny punches and kicks yet, your little pugilist's hands and feet (which now measure about 1/2 inch long) are more flexible and active.

When i read this and saw that our baby can now suck his/her thumb it brought tears to my eyes... i remember my little brothers sucking their thumbs when they were little and it was such a sweet thing... to think that this little one will be my baby... our baby... is a crazy thing to me and makes me tear up just thinking about it. i am so excited and although i am not technically a mom yet i feel like one, my greatest concern is to take care of this baby and i think about this baby all day long. if i dont think about the baby for a minute i feel bad and wonder how i could forget!!!
my sister let me borrow some maternity clothes and there was one pair of brown cargo pants... they are so cute and so comfy and very thin so they arent too hot... and i love them!!! i will be wearing these all the time! i am not showing that much yet... in fact some clothes i look normal but my waist is completely gone. it's so weird... it just amazes me how long a woman can go before she starts showing... i am a third of the way thru and anyone passing me on the street would never guess i am pregnant... i want the world to know!!! but then again i can wait... LOL
i appreciate all the prayers this far and keep on praying!!!! oh and i am hoping that in at least five weeks we find out what our little one is... i cant wait!!!!

Way to go! You made it throught the first trimester. Your second should be your best. You start to look pregnant and not feel it. It's funny how things switch around. I have a friend that is 13 weeks pregnant and they did a 2D ultrasound on her and she found out 99% sure that she was having a girl. Isn't that crazy that they can find out that fast. I found out with Caleb at 15-16 weeks and then this one I didn't find out until I was 18 weeks. I guess it just depends on the dr.

:( my sis found out at 15 weeks and i wish i could... but the dr. wants to wait and see all the organs and body parts at a certain time so i am going to beg for 18 or 19 weeks. since my dr. is on maternity leave we shall see. she gets back and i see her August
12th so i hope and pray she lets me do it early.

LOL Jenny you are so funny. yes i do need a shirt but the only cute ones i see are online and i dont know how they fit :(

You are absolutely technically a mommy! :) You are able to take care of your little one more now than ever! Your baby will never be quite so dependent on you as they are now, so I would say that qualifies! :)

As far as finding out, I know you are probably just dying too. With Carson and this baby, we found out at 19 weeks, but because of scheduling conflicts, we didn't find out about Caden until nearly 22 weeks, and I have to say that his ultrasound was SO much cooler! He was so much more formed and looked like you could just hold him right there! I could even tell what he was going to look like, and in Carson's and this baby's they look a little more like little skeletons. So it's not the worst thing to have to wait a little longer. :)

thanks melissa...
ya the only reason i want to know i guess is cuz really i have no idea what to think. like i have no idea of what i am having. i havent had any notions of IT's a boy or IT's a girl... nothing. so once i find out i can start picking out little things here and there and registering... but otherwise i would love to see the baby when it looks more like a human instead of a skeleton. LOL
thanks for the advice... i hope i get another ultrasound further along!!!!

We actually found at at 16 weeks 5 days. It was a huge surprise to go in and find out we were going to find out what Addyson was. Ha
Glad those pants fit you.

Glad to hear everything is going great Kristen! I remember it killing us with suspense when Kim was pregnant and we didn't know what she was having. You are in our prayers and I agree with Melissa you are absolutely a mommy!

i can't wait to know what it is either! can you rent an ultrasound like you did that other thing?? ha ha. that would be funny.. i'm sure you could figure out what it is.. and hey- you'd save a copay! ha

ha! that's funny....rent an u/s machine. wouldn't that be cool? hey, we were going to find out what camden was at 20 weeks but i think he wanted us to know sooner. i had my first kidney stone around 19 weeks and they did an ultrasound and there "he" was. i was getting really impatient waiting for my 20 week appt. and then my kidney stone was kind of like a blessing in disguise. not really! it was kind of cool to find out when i wasn't expecting to, though. this first half seems like the longest part. well, to me it did. once you find out what you're having, it seems to go by faster. i'm still guessing boy!

LOL
joni you are hilarious... no i dont think i can rent an u/s machine... but i wish... i cant wait either!!! i am more patient than daddy is though. he really wants to know bad... once we know though i will announce the for sure name... we have a name picked out for either a boy or a girl and we are using them no matter what... so if the boy comes first we will put the girl name on a back burner and vice versa....

awwww jenny i remember you having those kidney stones. that was so sad. i felt so bad for you. glad you are ok now though!!!

we shall see. i am hoping just five more weeks but i will know for sure august 12th when we will go for it!!!! thanks for the prayers everyone! yall are so great!

Sucking his thumb already?! Isn't that amazing?! I remember actually getting to see her go for her thumb and I cried and cried! It was so sweet! We didn't get to find out what she was until 19 weeks and it was so agonizing! I was like you...had no clue if it was a boy or girl.

And like Melissa said, you ARE very much a momma now! Dont ever feel that just because you're not holding a baby in your arms, doesn't make you a mommy. Because everything that you have to go through for both you and baby while your prego...your def a MOM! So be proud girl...you've joined the club mommy! Your little DKbaby is lucky to have you! Congrats on tri two!

Ok I am going against everyone, I guess that's what I do. But I think it's a girl......who know though right?? I almost had to wait until 21 weeks until we found out what Addyson was but because of my cyst we found out at 16weeks 5 days. I think it was better because at that point because I didn't go in there expecting to find out. almost halfway!

KriSTeN said...

eh well we will see in about five weeks!!! and so far no cyst so i know i wont be going early. but that's ok... 19 weeks isnt bad. and i am pretty sure my dr. will let me then... she is pretty awesome and knows that i am so ready for this!!! so we shall see. i dont know. as long as the baby is healthy then i will be happy. i have my reasons for preferring a boy first and God knows my reasons so He will give us what we need most!!! He made this happen and for that i wont complain!
